Which material? Concrete bollards are heavy, fixed in place and effectively impossible to remove without equipment, which makes them the usual choice for perimeter protection, pedestrian separation and municipal streetscapes. Steel bollards are slimmer and come in removable and chain-linked versions, so they suit access control points, parking areas and loading zones where the layout needs to change. Concrete bollards are heavy and difficult to move, which suits open public spaces and unsupervised roadside positions where permanence matters. Steel bollards have a slimmer profile and are lighter to handle, which suits tight spaces, indoor areas and positions that may need to be removed. Streetscape manufactures both.
The Streetscape spacing guide recommends between 0.92 metres and 1.52 metres for most applications. For building protection, 1.22 metres is the recommended middle ground, stopping vehicles while still allowing pedestrians and wheelchair users to pass between. For parking area designation, 1.52 metres is usually adequate and keeps costs down.
Yes. Streetscape manufactures two removable steel bollard designs, the Removable Sleeve and the Removable Flat Plate. Both suit delivery bays, service access routes and parking areas that need to open for vehicles at certain times and then be closed off again. The rest of the range is fixed.
Yes, chained options are available in both materials. Steel Bollards with Chain is the steel version, and Streetscape casts chained concrete bollards including the Stellenbosch design. Chains link bollards into a continuous visual barrier, which suits boundary marking, queue control and parking demarcation.
Streetscape does not publish fixed prices, because cost depends on the design chosen, the quantity ordered and the delivery destination. Request a quote listing the design, number of units and site location, or ask for the Streetscape catalogue, and the office will price the specific project.
