Exposed aggregate paving is concrete cast so the stone within it sits proud of the surface rather than being hidden under a smooth float finish. That gives the paving a textured, naturally coloured surface with more grip underfoot than smooth concrete, which is why it is used on pedestrian routes, ramps and areas that stay wet after rain.
